I was born and raised in Marin County, California. Growing up in an area known for its strong environmental leadership, I developed a deep appreciation for nature as a child. My motivation for writing comes from a desire to teach children and others what I had learned about the importance of caring for nature. I had read that viewing Earth from a distance was an experience that genuinely transforms a person’s thinking about our planet, and as part of my research I interviewed three Apollo astronauts. These interviews ultimately served as my inspiration to write what would one day become Sofia's Dream.
The publication of Sofia's Dream led me to fulfill a lifelong dream of teaching young people about protecting earth. Through writing, school assemblies, and environmental projects with students, my purpose is to awaken in young people the desire to demand what is rightfully theirs... clean water, land, and air.
I am a longtime member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Some of my favorite things to do include; walking, mountain biking, escaping to nature, and spending time with family and friends. I live in San Rafael, California with my wife and two kids.
Formerly titled Sofia's Dream, in this magically illustrated bedtime story, little Sofia befriends the moon and sets off on a dreamy adventure to visit her new friend. She sees our planet from the moon's point of view and is inspired to do whatever she can to protect Earth and to encourage others to do the same. Winner of 5 awards, written by Land Wilson, illustrated by Sue Cornelison, and published by Sourcebooks.
